Terms of Service

The rules for using getbased.

Effective 22 June 2026

Important: getbased is not a medical device. It is a tool for tracking and visualising your own health data. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition. AI-generated interpretations are not medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making decisions based on your lab results, genetic data, or anything else getbased shows you.

1. About these Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the getbased website at getbased.health, the in-browser application served at getbased.health/app, and any official distribution (referred to collectively as "getbased"). By using getbased you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use it.

getbased is developed and maintained by an individual maintainer operating in the Czech Republic (referred to as "the maintainer").

2. What getbased is

getbased is a free, open-source, privacy-focused web application for tracking and interpreting blood work, genetic data, wearable metrics, and related health information. It runs in your browser and stores your health data locally on your own device by default. Network features are optional and include AI providers, wearable vendors, sync relays, encrypted profile sharing, hosted proxy traffic, and anonymous hosted-site/app analytics as described in the Privacy Policy.

getbased is delivered as browser-based digital content/service. It requires a modern browser with JavaScript, local browser storage (localStorage, IndexedDB, and for some features OPFS), and internet access for hosted pages or optional network features. If your browser blocks storage, clears site data, disables JavaScript, or lacks required APIs, parts of getbased may not work or local data may be lost.

3. Not a medical device; not medical advice

getbased is not a medical device. It has not been reviewed or approved by any regulatory authority (FDA, EMA, CE/MDR, SÚKL, or otherwise). It is not certified for clinical, diagnostic, therapeutic, or any other medical purpose.

getbased is intended as a wellness, self-tracking, and educational tool. It is not intended to diagnose, prevent, monitor, predict, treat, or alleviate any disease or medical condition, nor to recommend a specific clinical intervention for you.

Content displayed by getbased — including AI-generated interpretations, genetic findings, trend alerts, supplement suggestions, biological-age estimates, and context cards — is provided for informational and educational purposes only. Trend alerts and wearable summaries are not clinical monitoring, emergency alerts, triage, or treatment instructions. Supplement suggestions are educational context, not dosing instructions, prescriptions, or personalised medical recommendations.

AI-generated output should be read as general context about biomarkers and health science, not as a statement that you personally have a condition, deficiency, or disease. Any clinically relevant finding must be confirmed with a qualified healthcare professional.

Always consult a qualified healthcare professional (physician, licensed dietitian, pharmacist, or other medical authority in your jurisdiction) before making health decisions based on anything displayed by getbased. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay seeking it because of something you read in the app.

AI providers are probabilistic and may generate plausible-sounding but incorrect outputs. Reference ranges differ between labs, populations, and clinical contexts. Genetic variant interpretations change as research evolves.

4. Open source & license

getbased's source code is released under the GNU Affero General Public License version 3 (AGPL-3.0). You are free to use, study, modify, and redistribute the source under the terms of that license. Derivative works must remain AGPL-licensed, and if you run a modified version as a network service you must make its source available to users.

The repository lives at github.com/elkimek/get-based.

Third-party libraries bundled or loaded by getbased are licensed under their own terms. The vendor/ directory in the source repository lists them.

5. No account, no subscription

getbased does not require an account. There is nothing to sign up for, nothing to suspend, nothing to cancel. You can stop using getbased at any time simply by closing the tab or clearing your browser data. Support for the project is voluntary (donations are optional and governed separately).

At the time of these Terms, getbased does not sell a paid digital service, subscription, renewal, or in-app purchase. There is no checkout, no minimum commitment, no delivery charge, and no refund process because no payment is collected for using the app. If paid features are introduced later, the Terms and checkout flow must be updated before launch with price, cancellation, withdrawal, and complaint-handling information.

6. Third-party services

Features that call external services or hosted infrastructure (AI providers, wearable vendors, sync relays, Knowledge Base servers, encrypted profile sharing, hosted analytics, and the /api/proxy endpoint) are governed by the Privacy Policy and, where applicable, the third party's own terms and privacy policies. getbased neither mediates nor controls what those services do on their side.

If you use optional profile sharing, you are responsible for choosing what to share and for keeping the link and password separate. Anyone with both can decrypt and import the shared profile until it expires or is stopped.

If a third-party service is discontinued, changes its API, changes its terms, or revokes your access, the related feature may break. getbased is not liable for those outages.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

The maintainer reserves the right to block access to the hosted site from specific IP addresses or patterns of abuse. The source is open; you may always self-host if blocked.

8. Warranty disclaimer

getbased is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE", without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, reliability, security, or non-infringement. You use it at your own risk.

This is consistent with Sections 15 and 16 of the AGPL-3.0 and is a fundamental term of the license under which getbased is released.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the maintainer shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, punitive, or similar damages — including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, business interruption, provider outages, AI/model errors, or decisions made from getbased output — arising from or related to your use of, or inability to use, getbased.

getbased is an informational, educational, and self-tracking tool. You remain responsible for your own health decisions, backups, local data, API keys, and for confirming any clinically relevant information with a qualified healthcare professional.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes the maintainer's liability for death or personal injury, for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, for harm to a person's natural rights, for liability toward a weaker party that cannot be limited in advance, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable mandatory laws of the Czech Republic.

Because getbased is provided free of charge, no refunds apply; there is no paid-service liability cap in these Terms.

Statutory rights. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits rights you have under applicable mandatory consumer-protection law that cannot be waived by agreement. If you are a consumer in the EU, EEA, or UK, your statutory rights (including under the Czech Civil Code and GDPR) are preserved regardless of any clause above.

10. Changes to the service

getbased is under active development. Features may be added, changed, or removed. Version numbers follow semantic versioning; a changelog is kept in-app and in the source repository. Breaking changes are documented; migrations are provided when feasible but not guaranteed.

The hosted getbased.health deployment may be taken offline for maintenance, or discontinued. The source code, released under AGPL-3.0, remains available for self-hosting.

11. Changes to these Terms

If these Terms change, we'll update the Effective date above and note the change in the app's changelog. If a change is material, or if the app's built-in legal version no longer matches the version this browser accepted, the app will display the updated Terms and Privacy Policy on first launch after the update and ask you to accept before continuing. If you do not agree, stop using the hosted app; because the source is AGPL-licensed, you may self-host an earlier version where legally and technically available.

12. Governing law & jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Czech Republic, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms that cannot be resolved informally shall be submitted to the courts of the Czech Republic. If you are a consumer, you may also bring proceedings in the country where you reside, in accordance with mandatory EU consumer-protection law.

For Czech consumers, the competent authority for out-of-court consumer dispute resolution may be the Czech Trade Inspection Authority (Česká obchodní inspekce, coi.cz), where applicable. For EU consumers, the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform is available at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.

13. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in force. The invalid provision will be replaced by a valid one whose effect is as close as possible to the invalid one's original intent.
